Finally...a Simple Skin Care Regimen That Works For ME.

I've always struggled with skin issues; after all, I'm a ginger with sensitive skin. I had pretty bad acne when I was younger & I remember trying just about everything. I used Proactiv for a few years. It curbed my acne, but it certainly didn't cure it. I've found that while it may be quicker & easier to mask an issue, it's more beneficial in the long run to figure out and address the root of the problem.
I turned over a "new leaf" a few years back and one of my new practices was limiting my exposure to pthalates, parabens and any other expensive products with laundry lists of questionable ingredients. I stopped using Proactiv long before that, though, because it was expensive as hell and it gave me new problems that I hadn't had previously, like dry, flaky skin. I would rather have some zits than cake chemicals on my face day after day. I'm not surprised that my skin was the worst during a very unhealthy period in my life: I didn't practice any stress relief tactics, I didn't drink water ever, I drank lots of alcohol and I ate processed crap all day, every day. Oh, and I smoked cigarettes. I also didn't even entertain the idea of eating vegetables. That's the perfect recipe for bad skin if I've ever heard one.
I see a lot of people shouting from the rooftops about certain skin care lines and how well they work. I also have a lot of friends making money selling these products. I'm not knocking these multi-level companies; I've tried some of them, they're just not for me. Keep in mind: what works for me won't necessarily work for you. However, I am extremely skeptical about any company that claims their products are magic or perfect for everyone. Not to mention, I would rather save those hundreds of dollars for my next trip!
I went to one of those sales parties way before the recent multi-level marketing boom. I became a consultant for that company that day. I think critically about everything, so I immediately went home and started researching. Even if there wasn't proof that their products were not pure & beneficial like they insisted, there also wasn't proof that they were.  I didn't like what I found & I questioned a lot of the ingredients and sales tactics(along with plenty of others on the internet). I had trouble coming to terms with selling something I didn't wholeheartedly believe in just make a buck or get free products-so I didn't continue. Plus, I started using the products only to find that I didn't even like most of them! These products were NOT CHEAP either, so I wasted a bunch of money on crap that sat in my bathroom for a year before I finally tossed them. You live & you learn!

Here's my current, simple & cost effective regimen:

Wash: Gentle face massage using castile soap on a washcloth(I use lavender)
Tone: Good quality witch hazel(I use rose)
Moisturize: Sweet almond oil
Maintain: Water throughout the day & lots of it with some lemon slices or baking soda. Tea. Fruits & veggies. Vitamin D supplements, especially in the winter months. A drop or 2 of lavender or tea tree essential oils. Stress relief(for me, that's yoga, meditation & riding my bike!)
