Challenges That Change Us
Challenging ourselves is what life is all about. The challenges are what change us, and they will change us for the better if we use them to our advantage.
You can find a 30-day challenge for just about anything on the internet these days. If the outcome is truly important to you, then I think these can be very helpful.
A couple years ago, I challenged myself to do a "smoothie-a-day" for a month. Before I left the house each morning, I had a smoothie or a juice. After the 30 day challenge was up, I found myself continuing with it anyway. I have a smoothie in-hand most mornings...years later! The things you do consistently turn into habits, which is why I think a 30 day challenge is a great place to start.
I try to make it as easy as possible for myself by keeping frozen fruit in the freezer and picking greens from my backyard garden. I have the Ninja blender, so I can throw my ingredients in the cup, blend it up and take it to go! In this morning's smoothie, I blended a banana, kale and hemp seeds with frozen peaches, spirulina and blueberries.
Now I'm onto a new challenge; mastering my morning routine. I figure, if I can look at my Timehop app on my phone every day for over a year, surely I can make time for healthy habits daily too. I'm currently reading "Unleash Your Inner Money Babe", which requires the me to read 1 chapter each day. I have yet to miss a day and I'm more than halfway through! My hope is that when the 21 days is up, I'll continue to use that time to journal. I might even re-start the 21 day challenge at the end! I love that it gets me writing and working toward goals first thing in the morning every single day! You can buy the book here ---> Unleash Your Inner Money Babe
My morning routine now consists of: a 10-20 minute meditation, tea and journaling/reading and 15-30 minutes of yoga. Set some goals and try a challenge; if it doesn't work, you can always try again until it does!
